At Santa Fe Cafe on Hilton Head Island, we found a delicious and sometimes inventive version of Southwestern food and came away smiling.
The two-story restaurant is in Plantation Center, just past Palmetto Dunes. The walls are pale, decorated with prints evoking its namesake.
Diners are mostly in their 20s and 30s, and the room is rather noisy.

We started with a bowl of chile con queso ($5) to go with our chips and fresh, chunky salsa. Well blended, with just enough heat and plenty of flavor, the queso was tops.
